Sabathia could be the Giants' ace next year

This season isn't starting the way CC Sabathia or Indians fans hoped. If things stay that way, he could be the Giants ace next year.

Conventional wisdom before this season was that Sabathia would have a typically solid year and be signed by the Yankees. Now, the Yankees are probably not scared away by a bad year and will still open the bank, and we'll be exactly where we thought we would be. But if Sabathia's performance stays this bad, and his price tag is reduced, there will be more suitors.

Sabathia will go where he is offered the most money ultimately, but he is from Vallejo and Pac Bell is a pitcher's park (he could take a ferry from Vallejo!), so the Giants could get into that game.

Now, the Giants are likely gun shy about shelling out money to a left handed 20-something former AL Cy Young award winner. Plus, they should be in rebuilding mode, but I suggest signing Sabathia would help their youth movement. Sabathia will be 28 next year, which, sadly, is the same age as Fred Lewis, one of the Giant "youngsters" who deserves more playing time.

More to the point, the Giants do have abundant young pitching talent. Signing Sabathia would allow them to trade one of their young pitching studs for a young bat or two. Further, moving Zito out of the #1 spot may unburden him and start a rejuvenation.

I don't even understand this argument. You're basically saying "the Giants have a lot of young pitchers, so we should sign another one (who is sucking this year, like most of the Giants rotation) so that we can *trade* him to get a hitter." Why not save yourself the game of musical chairs and just go out and get a fucking hitter!?

And by the way, don't even get me started on the "Giants are likely gun shy about shelling out money to a left handed 20-something former AL Cy Young award winner" comment. Ya think so!? Zito is 0-4 with a 4.5 ERA and earning $14.5M this year. Meanwhile, Lincecum is 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA, but only earning $405K. Ridiculous.

Cheesehead DOES make a good point.
