No team is worse in March and April than the Texans.

The evidence continues to pile up. Since winning the first game of their existence against the Cowboys, pretty much every personnel decision this franchise has made has blown.

Exhibit A is of course the Mario Williams pick. Hindsight is 20/20, but consider where either Bush or Vince Young might have put this team, at least in terms of giving fans a shred of hope. May be the most disappointing #1 overall since...

Exhibit B: David Carr. Currently looking at apartments in Oakland.

Exhibit C: The Matt Shcaub trade. For some reason, everyone has concluded this guy is the next Steve Young. Looks to me like the next Rex Grossman. 0-2 as a starter, 84 of 161 with 6 TDs and 6 picks. For this you move down in the 1st and give up two seconds?

Exhibit D: The Ahman Green signing. As a Packer guy, I have nothing but love for the man. But spending $6.5 guaranteed on a four-year deal for a 30-year old back one season removed from a torn quadriceps? Ah, but at least their offensive line is one of the greatest in the league. Should open up a lot of huge holes.

Yes, they're an expansion team and that creates a burden. But you can man up and get past that in five years. The Jags and Panthers played for their respective conference championships in their second years in the league (granted, with a more generous expansion draft).

I challenge anyone to make the opposite case without using the words "Andre Johnson." That's about it...

Pickle, this smackdown challenge sat idle for a long time, because it probably isn't quite controversial enough to elicit many, if any, responses. But I am stepping up to the plate with a pretty darn convincing argument:

I submit that no team is worse in March and April, and May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, and February, than the Detroit Lions.

While I agree that the Texans have made many questionable moves over the past four or five years, the body of work that William Clay Ford has amassed over a much longer period of time demonstrates more ineptitude than the Texans have demonstrated. Consider a few facts:

1. Matt Millen is now entering his sixth season as President and still has many years left on a contract. That means every year he is evaluated in March and April and is deemed a worthy employee. This point alone is enough for me to win this argument, but I'll go on.

2. Lions management huddles together each year for draft strategy. The output of that brainfest has included the following first rounders in successive years: Charles Rogers, Roy Williams, and then Mike Williams. 3 WRs in a row, two are total busts and the good one is a bit of an idiot guaranteeing wins on a team that never wins.

3. When was the last time the Lions had a respectable QB? More good planning. Leinart was there for the taking last year, but instead, management felt comfortable with the three-headed beast of Shaun King, Josh McCown, and Jon Kitna.

4. A few more shining stars to mention over the years: Dick Jauron, Steve Mariucci, Marty Mornhinweg, Bobby Ross, Gary Moeller, and Wayne Fontes. In March and April, these guys are calling the shots.. along with Matt Millen for the past 6 years. This is devastating for a Lions fan like myself.

If these photos don't clinch this, I don't know what possibly could

The Lions are easily the worst franchise in sports

Yeah, the Lions have smelt up the NFL for much longer than the Texans have existed. The problem with Detroit is that they don't seem to learn from their mistakes. Even teams like the Bucs, perennial stinkers, find purple patches from time to time- not Detroit. As Steppenwolf rightly alluded, the Lions are a classic case study in what NOT to do with an NFL team.
