No, I'm not talking about Wilt Chamberlain. I'm talking about the flurry of trades in the last week. What the hell was that deal the Cavs just pulled (at one minute before the trade deadline). They're trading half their damn team -- 6 players overall, 2 starters (Gooden and Hughes). It feels like a pick-up game on the playground. I don't like that a team can have 5 starters for half the season, then change the entire roster except for a couple guys midway through. It sucks some of the fandom out of the game to have a guy you were rooting for suddenly be wearing your opponents jersey the next night!

Or, maybe I should just think of it as a fun party game: match the player with the uniform!

I'm not saying there shouldn't be free agency. In fact, I'm a big supporter. There's so much money in sports, that it's only fair the players can shop themselves and get the best deal the market will pay... in the OFF season. It's the mid-season shenanigans that I dislike. You don't see Brett Favre suddenly donning a Chicago Bears jersey between week 8 and week 9 in the NFL season.

Grim Trigger, if you take a look at all the major sports leagues, I'd say the NBA is probably the most stable of all four of them. The NFL, with free agency and non-guaranteed contracts, is about as stable as the highly combustable hair product you use. MLB rosters are so hard to keep track of that I gave up about 10 years ago. The NHL is irrelevant, but that league also has tremendous turnover year over year due to free agency.

I think the mid-season change is great for the NBA. Only the Cleveland dealings were truly tumultuous for their core line-up. All the Western Conference teams loaded up for what will be the best conference playoffs top to bottom that we have ever seen. I'm looking forward to it.

OK, who's the dirty biotch who secretly voted for Wolverine without putting in a comment?
