College football needs a playoffs

Every time this year as the hype builds around the NCAA basketball tournament, I'm reminded how mind-bogglingly lame it is that NCAA football goes by the idiotic BCS system to determine the national champion. With all the controversy, speculation, discussion, suspense around just who will make the list of 64 in basketball, you realize how foolish it is that we let pundits basically decide the 2 teams that will be crowned champion in football. What if they just selected the top two basketball teams, played them off, and named a champion. No one would stand for it -- and we should stop standing for it in NCAA football too.

I just starred your comment, Colonel -- it's nice to have your opponent agree with you 100%! The amazing thing about this topic is that 99% of college football fans also agree. I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who thinks the bowl system is preferable to a playoffs. Why the fuck hasn't it happened yet???? The money out of a championship would so far exceed the bowls it's ridiculous -- it's a win for the NCAA and shools, win for fan (who would be glued to our TVs from Nov-Jan), and frankly win for players as well since most of them are effectively football majors anyway.
